“Take off your shoes and stay a while.” —these comfy couches, probably
Are couches even comfy if you can't put your feet up? Asking for a friend. Personally, I'm not cozy unless my lil tootsies are at LEAST in line with my hips, but the higher, the better. If you agree with that statement, chances are you're a prime candidate for a reclining sofa—and that means you've come to the right place, bb.
While the word "recliner" may conjure up images of your dad couched with a beer in his hand watching Monday Night Football, I'm here to tell you that there are recliners that can—and should!—exist outside of your pop's man cave. Yes, chic reclining sofas do exist, and they make naps, Netflix binges, and working from home couch so much more enjoyable. Here, I've rounded up the seven best on the market—with picks that are great for besties on a budget, those who are always hosting overnight guests, my tiny-apartment girlies who only have space for a loveseat, and more. Here's a sneak peek:
Scroll down to find the one that works best for you, and pull the trigger (and then the handle on the side, if it's a manual recliner). I promise you'll never look back.
Here's the thing: it's damn near impossible to get any couch for under $1,500, never mind an actually cute couch that's customizable and also reclines. Basically, this right here is the queen bee of reclining couches—it's available in 54 different colors, you can pick your favorite fabric and finishes, it's got power reclining at the push of a button, and it even has two built-in USB plugs so you don't have to get up to charge your phone (as DJ Khaled would say: major key). Get it before it sells out.
Sexy specs:
Some reclining couches give "dad's favorite football-watching spot" vibes, but this three-seater from Pottery Barn is definitely giving more "successful 30-something's chic apartment." First of all, you'd never know it was a power recliner, thanks to the fact that the buttons are hidden on the inside of the arms. Second of all, it's super luxe and customizable, with each piece being made to order. You can truly build the perfect couch for your space, choosing from 33 different fabric types and colors. So many options, so little time, amirite?!
Sexy specs:
People with apartments in prime locations, this one's for you. This gorge gray couch can recline flat with just a quick tug on the back cushions, transforming into a full-sized bed for overnight guests. One can sleep comfortably, but you can definitely fit two if they're down to snuggle. That said, it's definitely not your average futon—made with premium foam filling, plush linen upholstery, and a durable hardwood frame, it's far more luxe than whatever foldout couch you kept for visitors in your college dorm.
Sexy specs:
This might be a loaded statement, but...I think this is the chicest recliner on the market. There, I said it. No takesies backsies. But I mean just look at it. The sleek silhouette! The neutral color! The cozy bouclé fabric! It's almost too much!!! And if comfort's what you're after, look no further: it's got power reclining and the head and footrests move independently, so you can be relaxed and look luxe all at the same time.
Sexy specs:
If you're not scouring Sam's Club for furniture...allow me to put you on. Their prices are SO good for the quality you get, and such is true for this here low-to-the-floor couch. You don't see many reclining sectionals (you know, couches with attached chaises), but this baby does it all with power. (No really, it's got power reclining.) It's also available in two neutral colors that will look good in pretty much any space, and has built-in USB ports for charging while couched.
Sexy specs:
Some leather couches scream "old man's man cave," but this pick definitely deserves to live outside of a dingy basement. Fold up the cupholder and you can fit three amigos, or keep it down for two spacious seats. (Bonus points that the faux leather is stain resistant, so you can put red wine in said cupholder with no fear.) While there are (sadly) no footrests that pop out of this couch, the backrests do recline–105°, 140°, and 180°, depending on how hard you're trying to chill...or sleep.
Sexy specs:
Not quite a couch but also not a chair, the loveseat lives in a perpetual awkward stage. But this bb here is anything but awk—it's a cute as it is functional (hi, we love all your curves and all your edges), and perfect for snuggling up in with a buddy. It leans alllll the way back with the press of a button, so a visitor could sleep on it in a pinch...or you could use it for napping purposes, because you deserve a rest.

Size
Of course, size matters...at least when we're talking about couches. Before you buy a reclining sofa, check the specs to ensure that it will fit in your space—when sitting normally and when fully reclined. There's nothing worse than returning furniture, so this is one time you're def gonna want to pull out that measuring tape.
Material
Obviously, you're thinking about the color of the fabric when choosing a couch, but you should also think about the type of fabric covering the couch as well. If your recliner is likely to get messy (hello, pet and human parents) consider a stain-resistant fabric or easy-to-wash cushion covers. If comfort is your priority, look towards something soft and fuzzy, like a chic bouclé.
Manual vs. Power
Manual recliners require you to (shocker) manually move the sofa into a reclined position, typically using a handle on the side of the couch or by releasing the reclining function in some other way. Power recliners, on the other hand, are electric, and their reclining function can be turned on with the touch of a button. Power recliners are generally seen as the more luxe option (especially if you're lazy like me), but do need to be plugged in.
Fun! Features!
Some recliners have USB ports in the arms, while others have built-in cupholders. Read through the specs and see what piques your interest—this is your chance to think about what's really important to you!
